So fucking tired of reading specialty diets. This shit is so simple. This is just carb cycling, people do this all the time I was hoping it'd be the secret to leaving humanity behind. And this isn't even the worst picture i've seen. Without bashing Rich Piana or being petty, I'm curious if anyone here has an experience trying a diet like this?
On a cut or bulk? For those wanting a tl;dw - Monday thru Friday Keto style diet. Haven't tried this, but it's not my type of thing. I honestly prefer to eat the same all 7 days out of the week. When I tried leangains and other diet periodization methods I felt it lead to some pretty rough mood swings.
Days I can eat a lot I'm happy and feeling great! This diet could possibly work in theory. But in my opinion, the practice of something like this is just mentally taxing. Someone who doesn't have as much of a love for food might be okay with different diet periodization methods.
High protein low everything and then a carb refeed. Except he ties training to it too. Same thought process here.
UD involved Mon-Thurs really low carb and calorie and then a giant carb refeed Thursday night after a full body workout, then maintaining a moderate carb and calorie diet until Sunday. Bro split type stuff Monday and Tuesday.
I've noticed this approach has worked amazingly for me and I've gotten leaner but remained the same weight. I changed my plan up to have a moderate carb day on my lifting days MWF and noticed my fat loss slowed down. I've found that the extended 4 day low carb period is very important and lets ketosis kick in and do its work.
Since I've been making muscle gains I've revamped the lifting protocol to aid me in quite possibly continuing to make gains in lean muscle and lose significant amounts of fat at the same time. I personally wouldn't use the diet to bulk since a majority of the week is focused on losing fat instead of making gains.
I start bulking in roughly 4 weeks, I'll see if I have issues with gaining too much fat and will consider bulking on UD. I've tried it, CKD for years. IMO it's good for bulking or recomp, not great for cutting. It didn't work for me, too many fluctuations, grew to hate carb ups which really negatively affected my workouts surprisingly enough. Sounds extremely similar to the Dave Palumbo diet.
IDK, my understanding of keto is your body goes into ketosis after a few weeks of the keto diet, trying to do it on and off would fuck up your body going into ketosis, no?
Doesn't sound efficient to me. Once your body gets used to it it only takes a day or 2 to get back into ketosis after a carb up. Either way if you eat in a deficit you're losing weight. Only point to eat carbs on weekend is to replenish glycogen in your muscles so you can maintain intense workouts. I haven't tried this precisely, though I have carb cycled with some success for previous shows.
Piana describes the M-F as "keto" but then goes on to say "high protein," which is not keto. It's low carb, but it's not keto - protein to amino acids to carbs via gluconeogenesis.
What the hell man. Your weight fluctuates a good deal when going from ketosis to a carb reefed state due to water retention etc. Maybe it's just me, but depending on what I've eaten recently I can weigh anywhere between This doesn't sound too far fetched.
